MPC와 404로 작업하며 미시건의 로컬 크루 사이에서 비트 테잎을 돌리고, 웹 세상의 친구들에게 Zip 파일을 전달하는 Samiyam은 전통적인 MC/프로듀서 콜라보보다는, 작업 방식으로서 인스트루멘탈에 더 집중하는 Donuts 이후 힙합 프로듀서들 중 하나였다. 그로부터 머지 않아 그들은 서부로 이주하거나 로스앤젤레스 동부의 Low End Theory 주변으로 뛰어들었다.

거기서 Flying Lotus는 Sam을 만났고 Brainfeeder에서의 첫 데뷔 릴리즈인 2008년 Rap Beats Vol. 1와 2011년의 또다른 풀렝스 앨범을 위해 그를 선발했다. 2013년 Earl Sweatshirt, Captain Murphy 그리고 Pharoahe Monch와 작업하는 프로덕션 과정에서 그의 “Wish You Were Here”가 Leaving Records에서 발표되었다.

Samiyam은 최근에서야 Stones Throw의 가족으로서 발을 넓혔다. 그리고 “Animals Have Feelings”로 첫 레이블 데뷔를 치웠고, 지난 해 비평가들로부터 호평을 받은 “Pizza party”로 육감적인 신스 멜로디와 심상치 않은 오싹한 베이스로 가득 찬 음악을 보여줬다.

Working on the MPC and 404 and circulating beat tapes among local crew in Michigan, and zip files to friends on the web, Samiyam was among a network of post-Donuts hip-hop producers focusing on instrumentals as the work, rather than traditional MC/producer collaborations. Many soon found themselves migrating west and huddling in the scene around the Low End Theory in east Los Angeles.

That's where Flying Lotus met Sam and picked him for the debut release on his Brainfeeder label, 2008's Rap Beats Vol. 1. and another full album in 2011. His “Wish You Were Here” showed up on Leaving Records in 2013, along with production work for Earl Sweatshirt, Captain Murphy and Pharoahe Monch along the way.

Samiyam has been extended Stones Throw family for a while now, and made his label debut with “Animals Have Feelings” and last year made “Pizza party” a critically acclaimed album full of foreboding synth melodies and ominous creeping bass.
