They are also famous for delivering fantastic DJ sets, playing regularly at Space in Ibiza this Summer, releasing CD’s for DJ Kicks and Bugged Out, completing an excellent Essential Mix for Radio 1 and offering their house/techno inspired fusion throughout the world.
The Rhumba are absolutely delighted that Hot Chip have agreed to DJ at this Festival of House and we are certain will leave at the end of the night as fully fledged Rhumbateers!!
Leftfield
Leftfield are undisputed house music pioneers. They simply need no introduction. Their music and remixes have been an integral part of the Rhumba soundtrack throughout our entire 22 year history and are laced through our very Rhumba DNA.… we have danced, clapped, whooped and howled to their thunderous basslines in every city that the Rhumba has ever called home.
And now they are coming to us.….
Derrick Carter
Derrick Carter is probably one of the most in demand house DJ's on the planet right now.... delivering his inspired Chicago house sound in clubs as diverse as John Digweed's Insane night at Pacha in Ibiza, The Warehouse Project in Manchester, Fabric in London, Space in Ibiza & The Sub Club in Glasgow, whilst also playing festivals from the UK to Brazil, from Belgium to USA, including Tomorrowland, Lovebox, T in the Park and Glastonbury.
This Summer in Ibiza alone, Derrick will be playing Pacha for Digweed, We love ... at Space, the amazing DC-10 and Defected in the House at Boom.
He has a reputation for creating amazing party atmospheres, through great technically faultless house and disco inspired sets, and it is extremely exciting for us to bring him to the Rhumba. He has been on our hit list for many years, and seems truly fitting to have finally tracked him down for the Festival of House
Dave Seaman
Dave, is the Rhumba’s official number one resident DJ!
After long discussions, we have agreed with him that it is about time we acknowledged this fact and shouted it loud from the windows and the rooftops.
He has been so integral in the development and history of the club, is loved by every single Rhumbateer and embodies everything that we stand for. It is time to present him with the key to Rhumba City....
And to celebrate this, Big Dave Little Dave will play a magical 3 hour set at the Festival of House, showcasing everything that makes him our number one resident and brother in arms…. High 5 to the Seamster.
DJ Yoda
We are all extremely excited about DJ Yoda at Rhumba towers!
He is a born entertainer, an old school scratch DJ with a passion and a reputation for delivering huge, cut up party sets, that never fail to set the dancefloor alight. He was instrumental in creating the bootleg “cut-up” mixing style which is so popular today. His skills and talent as a DJ are immense, only matched by his creative flair and openness to experiment within his sets.
He has won the DMC DJ of the Year award, was nominated as one of the “Ten DJ’s to see before you die” by Q Magazine and also nominated for the Sony Radio Academy Award.
Yoda has toured the world with the likes of Goldie, The Jungle Brothers and the Scratch Perverts, DJ’d in clubs and festivals as diverse as Fabric in London, Space in Ibiza this summer, Rockness, T in the Park, Bestival and packed out clubs everywhere , from China to Brazil to Australia.
He has released so many CD’s and mix-tapes that we don’t know where to begin .. but his critically acclaimed Fabric Live 39 mix CD underpins the importance of his contribution to modern beat culture.
As we said, we are very excited at Rhumba towers!
Mauro Picotto:
Mauro Picotto has been at the forefront of the techno-trance scene for many years, with his own Meganite club being one of the highlights of the Ibizan calendar for the last decade. His bass driven groove has already rocked the Rhumba dancefloors on various occasions and his popularity within the region is simply immense. As a producer, his work rate is prolific and he has mastered and released over 600 records and remixes, with worldwide sales of over 6 million.... We know how much many of you Love Mauro, and it is a pleasure to welcome him back to the Rhumba.
Jon Pleased Wimmin
Along with Dave, there are certain DJ’s who have consistently delivered jaw quivering, party inspiring sets at the Rhumba. It is those DJ’s who, over many years, offer performances that take the Rhumbateers home at the end of the night with that warm acid house glow and a smile that stretches from the Tay to the Clyde.
JPW has always done that!
And after his amazing performance at OMT, we decided that we wanted it all again.… welcome back Jon.
Steve Bicknell
Fat Sams 1991.... a dark, heaving, strobed filled, smoky, acid house Nirvana …. Cutting through that amazing hot and sweaty atmosphere was a techno inspired soundtrack that could only be delivered by one man.... a hero to so many of you – Steve Bicknell.
Steve was a true pioneer and originator of the time, who played a style with a passion and an intensity, like no other. And we loved him for it!
Steve went on to open his own infamous, ground breaking and exciting club in London – Lost, playing host to all the great techno DJ’s including Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins and Ritchie Hawtin. Lost is still one of the longest running underground techno nights in the World, and continues to inspire so many people and DJ’s alike.
Steve has produced countless innovative records on his Cosmic Records label and recently completed an exclusive mix for DJ Magazine.
If the Rhumbateers have consistently and passionately requested one name to return from the past, it has been Steve.
We believe you are going to be in for a total master-class experience in the very best of house and techno, from one of the undisputed champions. Welcome back Steve.
Krafty Kuts
Krafty Kuts is the multi-award winning DJ & producer and the undisputed King of Beats. His multi-genre sets, dexterity on the decks and dedication to dancefloor hedonism have earned him hierarchy status in every genre of electronic music.
His amazing cut up sets and mixes are legendary, with his recent “50 Years of James Bond” mega-mix supported by Annie Mac on Radio 1.
His career boasts shining accolades, ranging from eight times Breakspoll Winner, Best International DJ and Best Single of the Year in DJ Mag, to DJing on tour with The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim and the Rolling Stones.
In 2013, Krafty Kuts is proving that breaks are here to stay, with his hugely popular club night “An Evening with Krafty Kuts” filling venues throughout the UK, playing sets at We Love Space in Ibiza, and a Summer Festival tour that takes in dates in the UK, Romania, Canada, USA, Ukraine and Ireland.
Krafty Kuts and the Rhumba are a match made in heaven!
The Cuban Brothers Live
Anybody who has had the unique pleasure of watching the Cuban Brothers play live, will know what a thoroughly entertaining experience they deliver…. they simply whip up a frenzy at every gig, with a riotous performance of music, comedy and sensational dancing.… all delivered with the over arching necessity of fun.
If you were at Rockness this year, you will have experienced their amazing performance on the main stage, and the rest of this summer has them touring their Havanas madness round all the main uk festivals, including Bestival on the Isle of Wight.
They have played parties for Damien Hirst, Robbie Williams and Elton John, have DJ’d in clubs all over the world, from Hong Kong to Russia and will bring their unique element of fun to the Festival of House. The Cuban Brothers will totally rock your socks off and offer a performance which easily represents the spirit of the Rhumba.
Jeremy Healy
Casting our minds back to some of those amazing Rhumba parties in Arbroath, there was one DJ, who always topped the Rhumba line-up, who was a firm favourite with the party massive and who delivered a Balearic soundtrack that would take in everything from house, to disco, to Nirvana, to Michael Jackson!
He partied hard and inspired so much love within the Rhumba, through his energy and musical freedom, that it was always a total pleasure to have him play and perform.
So much of the magical, mischievous tales of Rhumba naughtiness at that time actually involved him…. But we will keep those back for the book ;-)
For the Festival of House, the party of all parties, we just knew it would be missing an essential element if we did not bring back, the one and only, Jeremy Healy!
Paul Wain
Paul Wain’s sets at the Rhumba were inspired and legendary. Even now, through our very own rrrCloud, people are accessing them and expressing how they still sound as fantastic today as they did over 20 years ago.
A resident at the legendary Nottingham acid house show-down, Venus, Paul forged his reputation by playing exciting, cutting edge house music, laced with inspired, unexpected Balearic moments…. who can forget The Eruptions – I can’t stand the rain.... or Fleetwood Mac – Big Lov.… or The Clash – Rock the Casbah!
He played for us in Fat Sams, he played in the Citrus, and he even joined the Rhumba Northern Exposure expedition team to Aviemore, to partake in an acid house party at the top of a mountain.
A fantastic guy, a fantastic DJ and one artist on the bill who is certainly going to be met with a room full of open armed Rhumbateers, wanting some old school action
James Bradley
James, or Jimbo as the Rhumbateers have now Christened him, was one of the big stars of One More Tune. His excellent set crossed many genres and decades and he had the dancefloor begging for more.
He is a Rhumbateer through and through and has become a definite favourite of the team and one of the main instigators of mischief on the Rhumba Group Facebook page.
Formerly one half of the infamous Chris and James, Jimbo is relishing life unshackled and it is with great pleasure that we invite him back to partake in the Festival of House. The Rhumba salutes you Jimbo.
Tom Simpson
Tom is an old school Rhumbateer and a former resident from years gone by. Those with long memories (not me, I will add!) will remember his eclectic and exciting 4 deck cut-up sets, delivered with his partner in crime, Nick, as Spaceship.
Tom’s career went downhill after that, and he ended up in a small band, that nobody has probably heard of ….. Snow Patrol!
Yes, the boy did good, and Tom took up the role of keyboard player in the multi-million selling, multi-award winning, stadium filling band .. who are loved by all.
However, Tom has never let go of his roots, and when there is any gap in his super busy recording/touring schedule, he likes to go old school and spin some discs.
We are delighted to welcome our favourite keyboard player back behind the decks, to join the party and entertain you all once more.
And Finally……
To show the scale of this event.... this little introduction to the Festival of House is only the 1st instalment..... On top of this monster of an introduction, we will shortly be giving you everything you need to know about Roots, Zammo, Michael Kilkie and our brilliant residents: Nikki Flame, Alan Dobson and Darren Davies.
We will also be introducing you all to our great DJ friends from the area too, who will be playing on the night. This Festival of House needs to reflect the great work these guys do, so step forward Scott Williams, Billy Morris, Andy Barton, Chris Mann, Garry Traill, Mike McDonald and Kev Green.
And that not all..... We will be organising many Pre-Party’s and a few Sunday Sessions too, watch the pages for an amazing line-up of the North-East's finest DJ's. Our website will be launched soon and every single person involved will be given the credit they deserve for helping make this a True Festival of House.
Love You All Forever,
Ronnie Rhumba x
