In 1964, a rock ’n’ roll band formed in London that would change the way music was seen and heard – forever. THE WHO.
Forging a path with their unique brand of ‘Maximum R&B’ (when the term meant ‘rhythm and blues’ as opposed to the present day’s ‘ruined ballads’), The Who combined outrageous, instrument-obliterating live shows with the genius songwriting skills of Pete Townshend. Pete was a master chronicler and spokesperson of ‘his generation’ – the Mods, the scooter driving, pill-popping, sharply dressed youth movement which defined fashion and music for a brief time. It was then the Sixties really started swinging.
The Who’s amazing journey would continue, taking them through psychedelia, a career-defining concept album (‘Tommy’), immortal, zeitgeist-straddling concert appearances (Isle of Wight Festival and Woodstock) arguably rock’s greatest live recording (‘Live At Leeds’) to becoming Seventies stadium-filling rock giants and going full circle with 1973’s ’Quadrophrenia’, Townshend’s paean to mod culture. Triumph, tragedy and total power. That is the story of The Who.
WHO’S BEST, made up of five accomplished Perth, Western Australia-based musicians, strives to bring ravenous Who fans exactly that – the very best songs of The Who. Theirs is an intimidating back catalogue delivered by four ‘leads’; lead singer, lead guitarist, lead drummer and lead bassist. WHO’S BEST aims to capture the energy and the intensity of the greatest live band in rock ‘’n’ roll history, cherry-picking gems from their groundbreaking Sixties period through to their Seventies arena-packing glory. From ‘I Can’t Explain’ to ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ and a whole lot in-between, WHO’S BEST deliver pure, visceral excitement in a full production show designed to thoroughly entertain, conveying The Who’s ‘power and volume’ mantra.
