Since moving to Toronto in 1994, saxophonist Chris Gale has performed, recorded and toured with Blue Rodeo, Ron Sexsmith, Colin James, Michael Kaeshammer, Brandi Disterheft, Jarvis Church, Jeff Healey, The Powder Blues Band and Richard Underhill. Other highlights include appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival and performances with Randy Brecker, Garth Hudson and Oliver Jones.
Chris also has one CD to his credit. “Strays Stays” received critical acclaim and global airplay. “There’s a stylish Ellington sound stirring here”, wrote Toronto Star jazz critic Geoff Chapman, and the title track is “beautifully done with lush tenor work”.
“I’ll quite happily go out of my way to hear Chris Gale, a tenor saxophonist – among Toronto’s finest – who has matched an impressively sure, though not showy command of the instrument to a strong sense of it’s older and newer traditions in the service of a distinctive style that is timelessly melodic yet distinctively modern.”
